Top 10 Tweetable Nuggets from 50 Social Media Pros

Do you have ever this feeling after going to a conference or event that you just need time to “process”? A few weeks ago, we came back from Social Media Camp, the largest conference of its its kind in Canada, and the information is still sinking in.    This year’s 600+ attendance, 50 world-class speakers, 14K tweets, hundreds of re-tweets, posts, shares, “trending” hashtags and tattoos, couldn’t be more of a testament to the fact that everyone is craving social media skills they can readily apply to gain a competitive edge in their business, workplace, or school. We couldn’t possibly physically attend all of the sessions, but thanks to the live tweets, we could cherry pick some pretty valuable and timeless takeaways. 1) We are all...

5 Powerful Tools To Get More Engagement on Twitter

This is part 2) in the Series “For The Love of Twitter: Get More Engagement & Lasting Relationships”. You can read Part 1) here.  Don Power, Author of “Twitter for Skeptics”, demonstrated 5 amazing tools that you may already be using – not to the fullest – or that you can start using to reach your social media goals. 1) #Hashtags Are More Useful And Versatile Than You May Think  A hashtag is simply a word or phrase preceded by the pound sign “#”. Hashtags are heavily used on social networks – such as Twitter, Instagram and Google+ – to identify messages on a specific topic. For instance, for our session, we used the hashtag #4LoveOfTwitter to keep track of our conversations, and questions you...

7 Proven Tactics To Boost Your Twitter Engagement Today

Last week, my friend Don Power, Author of “Twitter for Skeptics”, and I had the pleasure to host our session #4LoveOfTwitter at Social Media Camp, Canada’s largest social media conference. Here is the recap many of you have asked for (Part 1 below and Part 2 that focuses on tools, over here). We thank you for all of your kind feedback, tweets, re-tweets, and Twitter love that made our hashtag trend during the event! Twitter is quite a powerful tool, but you really have to know how to navigate it When I asked the audience by a show of hands how many used Twitter on a regular basis, then how many actually felt overwhelmed on Twitter, the majority raised their hands twice. One of the things we talked about was the importance of setting up a...

The Importance Of Storytelling #KloutChat

Today we tuned in to another #KloutChat on the importance of storytelling. Needless to say, that’s a hot topic, and a lot of us were eager to hear what @Klout had to say. Many defined telling their story on social media as being genuine, authentic, and personable. That is easier said than done, of course. The challenge many of us face  is how we can balance our work vs. personal brands, what to share, and what not to share. A lot of us are still struggling with this. We keep on testing the waters and seek the courage to make bold statements. As some say      “Don’t over think it!”…Tough to follow this mantra to the fullest when whatever you say is public forever! Another interesting point made was that each network has its own...

#MediaTouchChat – 3 Tips to be more efficient online

We had a great turnout on this second official #MediaTouchChat hosted by Media Touch and moderated by @KatyCairo of WideNet! Loved to see familiar faces and new friends who joined us to talk about how we can all be more efficient ‘online’. Talk about a major challenge! Most of us seem to spend anywhere from two to eight hours online for work (not counting personal!). The most addictive platforms being Twitter and Instagram, followed by Facebook for our friend Miriam. Google Plus, while a powerful platform, doesn’t seem to be as addictive (yet) although we are all making an effort to be more active and consistent. It does require a bit of a  learning curve! Here are the top takeaways that were shared on making the most out of your ‘social...
